Dr. Alice S. Lakati,
PhD, Director, Research, Innovation, Consultancy and Extension and Dean, Graduate Studies
Dr Lakati is an epidemiologist, public health practitioner and trainer with twenty (20) years’ progressive experience in providing technical leadership in academic and continuous professional development programmes in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Eritrea, Ghana and Nigeria. She served at several capacities at the university where she was acting Vice-Chancellor and the founding Dean, School of Public Health at the Amref International University. She has taught biostatistics, epidemiology and research methods to graduate and undergraduate programmes in public and private universities in Kenya. She has lead in the design and implementation of research, evaluations of projects and programmes at various levels in various countries including south Sudan, Tanzania, Ghana, Malawi, and Senegal.
She has served in various expert committee including World Health Organisation committee that reviewed guidelines for safe water in 2005 and have served an adjunct faculty for Centre for International Development and Environmental Research-Giessen, Germany, HENNA project. In 2013-2016, she was a Co-Principal Investigator for an intervention study in partnership the University of Oxford and London Knowledge hub funded by DFID that lead to the development of a mobile learning application for community health volunteers in Kenya for assessing child developmental milestones http://www.mchw.org
She is a member of Bioethics Society of Kenya and Amref Ethics and Scientific Committee (ESRC) that reviews all research protocols from Amref and other research organisations in Kenya. To date, she has supervised twenty-five graduate research students who have graduated and is currently supervising several others at various levels of completion. She is widely published in peer reviewed journals and presented in local and international conferences. Her publications are mainly focused on public health nutrition, monitoring and evaluation.
